Marital and Pre-marital Counseling
Even in the best of relationships, difficulties arise because of differences in personality, communication styles, and priorities. You will learn to overcome these difference and to create a more intimate bond with your partner.
Health insurance is based on a medical model. A disorder must be identified which significantly impairs function of the individual. Relationship problems are not considered to be disorders. When relationships are highly conflicted, usually one or both people do qualify for a mood disorder, adjustment disorder, or behavioral disorder. In any event, health insurance will cover the initial evaluation--even if no disorder is found.

Traditional: Interviews and histories are taken for each person. Key issues will be identified and, if possible, psychological diagnoses will be given for at least one person. A treatment plan will be drawn up with goals designed to remediate the diagnoses. This is a traditional treatment model which can be billed under health insurance plans and which incorporates many of the features of the enrichment model.
Enrichment: The enrichment model forgoes the traditonal diagnostic assessment. A brief assessment is done. After that each session focuses on one essential skill of a healthy relationship. Emphasis is given to those skills most needed by the couple. Couple's are expected to practice their skills between sessions. The enrichment model is not covered by health insurance policies. A discount rate is available for couples who pay the full fee in advance. Basic enrichment is 10 sessions.
